I'm trying to finish the first draft of a novel I started a couple of years back, whilst relentlessly dragging my other novel around agents and trying to get representation. Now and then I write a few short stories (I have a couple coming out with Fox Spirit Books next year, and one in their Girl at the End of the World vol 2 anthology).
I also have a blog, devilsjunkshop. I think it even has a couple of posts on it now whoo-hoo :D

Shall I make a creative writing section? Or maybe a more general creative arts section where writing, art, music etc made by forum members can be discussed?

Creative writing would be good. Separate sections or sub forums for each of the creative things might be best, stop them get cluttered/jumbled?

I don't want too many subforums, it all gets a bit confusing (you should have seen the PC and video games section before I simplified it! Madness). Saying that, the General Entertainment section is working well... Oops, sorry!

Well I'm back at my creative writing class and that's going well. Some weeks what we talk about gets my creative juices going rather well and then other weeks, like today, not so much (because I detest writing poetry. Especially about my childhood which was dull and uneventful). My main issue though, is the fact that I'm the only one there interested in sci-fi/fantasy literature.
For instance, last week we were talking about inventing characters and fleshing them out. So I came up with a character who was a local journalist, a keen knitter and a telepath. Now to me that's X-Men by way of Jasper Fforde, Terry Pratchett and probably Robert Rankin, but to my creative writing group it's the single most original idea they've ever heard. I like the people there and everything, but I think I need someone to tell me 'that's totally derivative, try this instead...' But you know, politely.
On the bright side the lady who teaches the class has said I should enter a story I wrote ages ago to Writing Magazine's Adult Fairy Tale competition which is running this month, so I think I might dig it up, dust it down and make it competition worthy.

I'm currently back on writing my webcomic and I'm occasionally uploading some shorts stories to the Wanderer's Library: http://wanderers-library.wikidot.com/david-s-crawleyMy stuff's in the link, but there's a lot of other good stuff there. I'm even considering fleshing out one or two ideas into a full novel...

Currently trying to hack out the first draft of something that's been spinning at the back of my head for years. I've tried writing it before, but I think the time wasn't right. I've written more this time than that first time, so that's a good sign.
I do find it difficult to do the actual writing, though. I seem to be stuck in a pattern of prolonged periods of mental percolation followed by brief periods of frantic scribbling, which I'm not all that happy about. I kind of just want to get the first draft done as it's been kicking around my head for about seven years or so, but this is a really slow way of going about it. It does seem to be working, but still.
I'm even pretty pleased with what I've written, which is a first for me. I have a tendency to start writing something and read it back halfway through, decide it's shit and toss it in the bin. This time, while I can see that there are flaws and mistakes that need fixing, I'm just pushing ahead with it instead and accepting that first drafts are gonna be pap.
Anyhoo. That's me.

Thirty days of writing whatever, no matter how ropey, just to get the words down on paper. Switch off your inner editor and all that. Obviously you've started early, but it might be worth checking out their website and 'community' stuff - lots of advice for keeping up the momentum, avoiding writer's block, etc.

Funnily enough, this was born in NaNoWriMo! I started actually writing the original version back in 2008, but I found it rather difficult to stick to, partly because I think I needed to let it brew in my subconscious a while longer, and partly because I've always had a tendency to fight against strict deadlines and stuff. Plus I'm an expert at avoiding what I should be doing. a procrastinator, if you will.
I will check the site out again, though. I seem to recall getting some pep talk emails at the time, too, so I might hook them out!

Doing the final proof read on The Iron Ghost, which is the stage where I start to reeeeeeally look forward to not having to read it again for a while - I must have read it through about 15 times now? Yay editing.
I still love it though. I expect I will be a sobbing mess by the end, as usual.

Working on background for a gently-poking-fun-at-the-rabid-Harry-Potter-fans story.
Dunno if it'll ever see the light of day, but hey ho.
