So are they just not bothering to review the last episode of Arrow then?

SFX have just tweeted that they'd like our memories of the last 20 years.

I'm not replying as I do feel for the staff, but god the temptation to say "yeah I remember when back in the day SFX had a website which I could visit at work and was fit for purpose, and when they had a thriving forum community which made the mag feel special, and when they were on top of breaking news when it happened instead of two days later..." is almost, almost overwhelming.

I gave my five pennyworth for what its worth which is clearly nowt!

I just realised i've not bought an issue since Dave left as editor/the forum closed. I guess my time with SFX came to an end with the forum. Sometimes i still feel those 6 years were just thrown out the window. :frown:

I'm pretty much set to at best renewing as digital only, but this may be my final year.

Fun while it lasted though! And at least we have the legacy of this thread.

I don't feel like a traitor at all -- I picked up the newest issue (the one with Spidey on it) and it was still an interesting read, purely due to the content that was in it, it didn't have that "I have to read every word on every page" feeling to it that it used to. It felt more... disposable.

Good to see you're still around Veela. I've been following you on DeviantArt. I know you're not much of a Facebooker but you should join the SFX gamers FB page if you do get on.

I hadn't noticed this, then went back on my feed and saw him post about it again 1 hour ago.

Of course I'd say it's his twitter and he can post whatever he wants. I talk a lot of banal shit on mine.

Interesting/alarming/sad. I wonder how low would circulation need to drop before they would have to pull the plug? I know Official Ninty was dropped last year, so I was worried it could have been the beginning of the end - I've been reading that mag in some shape or another since it split off from Mean Machines.

Well at close "Official Nintendo Magazine" had 18,743 monthly sales, so SFX still has some way to fall yet

http://www.abc.org.uk/Certificates/18761719.pdf

Here's all the ABC figures I can find for Future Magazines

http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/uk-mags-l ... -half-2014
http://www.pressgazette.co.uk/economist ... tion-sales

Code:
T3                  Print      25,143  Digital  17,797      Total  42,940
Edge                           11,735            6,347             18,082
GamesMaster                    11,719            1,130             12,849
Linux Format                   15,728            3,272             19,000
MacFormat                      12,670            9,451             22,121
PC Gamer                       16,450            2,826             19,276
Playstation Magazine           24,317            3,265             27,582
Xbox Magazine                  25,337            1,707             27,044
SFX                            20,304            3,421             23,725
Total Film                     47,487           11,429             58,916
Your Family Tree                9,448                               9,448

So SFX is nowhere near the worst performer, "Gamesmaster" and "Edge" may not be long for this world

SFX's Print circulation dropped by 13.1% from last year (2,659 copies) but increased by 37.9% Digital Downloads (940) so a nett loss of 1,719 so it probably has 3 or 4 years to go before it gets into "Official Nintendo Magazine" numbers

Though we have to wait at least a year for the Boo's to manifest in the cancelled subscription, though it would seem users of the Forum were less than 0.01% of the readership

Future's ABC figures were released this week. SFX 's figures have dropped again. Last year saw an average of 22,224 magazines a drop of 1,501 (6.3% drop) . 19,032 from print (a loss of 1,272 or 6.2%) Digital dropped from 3,421 to 3,192 (6.6%)

I was going to give a year on year report but Future are no longer producing results for "Edge", "Games Master" & "Linux Format" & "Your Family Tree" has been acquired by Dennis.

Code:

What on earth happened to "Total Film"'s Digital edition a near 20% decline ? Things don't look good for "PC Gamer" ,

Well PC Format was closed last November...

In other news, I just cancelled my subscription to Imagine FX (whose figures I noticed were also absent from the list) after ten years - feels like the end of an era

Does anyone still read SFX/Total Film any more?

Yup, we still read SFX. There wasn't a lot I was interested in this month - lots of great stuff, just not stuff I'm into - but the previous couple of months were corkers. We cancelled our subscription to Empire not long back, but we've not even discussed cancelling SFX. It's still a great read.

I've been digital for a year and am considering cancelling, I just don't read it as much as I used to. Part of it is due to more distractions (i.e. social media)

I have the last issue just about unread on my phone ATM and have had no real desire to read it.

I'm the same, got an email to tell me the May  Issue was available and discovered I still have the last 4 editions unread

I still subscribe, just got this month's (May 2016 on the spine) and have read most if it. Quite a good one this month, though they've forgotten to include a letter from Llama God again.

Speaking of letters, I've not been in it for a while, I should write some letters again. Figure out how to subtly put an Offtopica 2 reference in there somewhere!

I just don't read magazines that much. I mean to so perhaps soon I'll dive back in. I also have 6 months worth of Doctor Who Magazine waiting.

Still by the magazine, visted the website twice and have no desire to visit it again. Personally, I think SFX have a webpage simply because they have to.

They seem a bit out of touch now, they keep saying how great the new ghostbusters looks, which seems to run contrary to everyone that has replied to it.

More worrying news about its future. From this month's Ansible.

Axed! No champagne corks will pop for the 21st anniversary of my SFX magazine column (in every issue since the June 1995 launch). The next one, in SFX 274, is my last. Austere overlords counting beans at Future Publishing HQ have imposed a budget cut, and editor Richard Edwards can no longer afford what he kindly calls 'star writers and illustrations'; column illustrator Andy Watt also gets the push.

I wonder if that means the artwork for "Wishlist" & "Development Hell" is also going to get the chop

Aw, that's a shame. His column was always interesting.

That is a bad sign, also a bad idea. Yes you have to pay someone for a column but you can also guarantee that it is something unique to your magazine.

Agreed. I wasn't always a fan of their columnists, but they brought different voices and perspectives. Losing that means losing some of the mag's personality.

Not to sound too pessimistic, but this sounds like the beginning of the end...

I have this nightmare of a completely homogenous, personality-less future (pun unintended) where every magazine on the shelf is called "Content" -- "Film Content", "Music Content", "Science Fiction Content", etc...

Yeah. The Facebook group is not even close to a replacement - it's an unmoderated cesspool a lot of the time. I've seen stuff on several occasions that would have brought down the hammer of mod, if not a suspension/banning,
