Eight and a half years after the end of The Sarah Jane Adventures comes this the official finale.
The Sarah Jane Adventures came to an end due to the death of Sarah Jane herself, Elisabeth Sladen.
Written by series creator Russell T. Davies, Farewell, Sarah Jane was released on the ninth anniversary of Lis Sladen's death on April 19 2020 and as part of the Lockdown.
The story's format is unusual as we see narrator Jacob Dudman narrating it and cast members playing their characters all seen separately due to the real life isolation.
Dudman also voiced Mr Smith in place of the absent Alexander Armstrong.
Other absent principal cast members are Sinead Michael as Sky and Yasmin Paige as Maria.
Narrator Dudman addresses Sky's brief presence in this story with the alien state she was in, something that would have been shown in an unmade story, unmade due to Sladen's death.
Maria and her dad Alan missed their flight and therefore could only give (an unseen) video message.
Mirroring Lis Sladen's own death, Davies wrote in Sarah Jane's own death with it starting with her funeral attended by family and friends the latter including several of the Doctor's former companions.
The Trickster also turned up but not to pay his respects and he is quickly dealt with.
The story is mainly presented as a tribute to Lis Sladen/Sarah Jane, hence the Trickster's minor part in this.
Two of these ex-companions are seen here. The first is Katy Manning as Jo.
Katy had previously reprised Katy in SJA itself in The Death of the Doctor.
Here she still thinks that the Doctor is a man.
To be honest I didn't like it in The Death of the Doctor when Jo thought the Doctor had the Time Lords to worry about.
It seems on both occasions Jo seems behind the times when it comes to the Doctor but bless her all the same.
The other ex-companion is Sophie Aldred as Ace.
There were plans for Ace to appear in SJA but were scuppered due to Lis Sladen's death.
Sophie playing Ace here certainly indicates what could have been had those plans been able to go ahead.
Incidentally Sophie is credited in playing Dorothy "Ace" McShane.
Ace had revealed her first name of Dorothy in her debut in Dragonfire but the McShane name came from the novels. This means the McShane name has been canonised by Farewell, Sarah Jane.
Nice seeing Gita as she gives her memories of Sarah Jane.
Moving the other kids giving their memories of Sarah Jane.
It was especially moving with Rani (Anjli Mohindra) closing things off with her giving an alternate account of what happened to Sarah Jane.
Anjli of course recent to this was in Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror playing Queen of the Skithra.
A magnificent tribute to Lis Sladen as well as the lovely music.
