My wife has purchased a new laptop and as, is standard form now, it does not have office on it. What is the best option to go for as tbh we are both a little confused. In particular:

What do the subscription and liscences mean?
My wife is a student but will graduate soon. Will the university packages stop working or just stop updating?
Are there other software packages with the same number of features (we have tried openoffice or GoogleDocs but it is far too basic for what we need)?

Any more techsavy people can help out? Any advice would be helpful.

I'm still running student & Teacher edition, never asked me to prove I was a student (Think that was back in 05) and have successfully installed it through three different machines. I just assumed it was an edition with fewer features. Still updates, although I would guess at a 10yo edition MS will withdraw support at some point.
