Looks like we get to see the Big Fella this time. And all the monsters. Actually looks like they are going all in. Just hope it's not going to be pitch black the whole way through.

Looks spectacular. Please be good, please be good.

And of the human actors, they really seem to be pushing Millie Bobby Brown. However as she is looking exactly like Eleven, but not having the powers, that might cause some sort of dissonance.

My issue is that it looks as dark as the first.

In the last one I couldn't see a bloody thing. At least we are not getting cutaways (I hope). It's just making things out in the gloom.

It looks like there'll be a mix, there were some daytime beastie shots in there if I remember rightly. I think they'll ramp it up over the course of the movie, first glimpses, then full battles in half light and shadows, and then big full on scraps in clear daylight where you can really see what's going on.

Agree. Another CGI fest in the dark where you can't see anything.

Only a few days to go. And judging by the trailers and TV spots, this movie is fully embracing the franchise's Lovecraftian aspect. The Old Gods are awakening...

I can't decide if that was awesome or disappointing. It repeats both the sins and the successes of the first one, ups the ante but...
Spoiler:
they have the destroy all monsters kind of Awakening sequence and say there's 17 known Titans and then do next to nothing with them.

And, I'm not certain that they needed to go to Godzilla and Ghidorah having quite so many encounters as they did. Even so, it would have been nice to have one of the Godzilla vs Ghidorah sequences that wasn't interrupted to show the humans fannying about.

I don't agree with the 1 star Empire review but I can fully understand why the reviewer might react like that. There's a lot of good, quite a number of easter eggs for long time Godzilla fans but a lack of focus in places - and I don't know if those are script based or edit based.

Legendary just can't win, can they? When Godzilla (2014) was released, audiences complained there wasn't enough Godzilla and not enough monster battles. So, with Godzilla: King of the Monsters Legendary have given the public what they said they wanted, and people are griping that it's all sound & fury without enough story and development of the human characters.

Personally, I liked Godzilla and I like the new film. The whole point of the franchise is that we humans and our dramas & concerns are unimportant and insignificant. Ultimately the monsters will fight it out amongst themselves to decide the fate of the world, while Mankind watches helplessly on the sidelines, completely impotent and having no way of influencing the outcome.

I liked it, but can see the issues. As a visceral movie going experience it pounded you into submission with relentless big monster on monster action battering your senses, but then that is kinda what you go to a monster movie to see isn't it? There was a lot of spectacle, suffered from some of the action happening too much in the dark, or in the rain, but the action was a lot clearer than in the first one, and there was lots of it. I enjoyed the experience, it definitely had you on the edge of your seat, but the plot seemed pretty nonsensical. I think repeat viewings would just have you picking holes in the plot, but for a first viewing you'll be going huh? If you start to think about it, but then another Kaiju battle commences and knocks those questioning brain cells out of commission, and you just go with it. Just see it on the biggest screen you can and check your brain at the door and enjoy the ride.

Just read the current issue of Starburst magazine, and in their review they score Godzilla: King of the Monsters nine out of ten. Yay! I'm not the only one!
