So, every time I've told someone they should watch something because it's good I've been spoiling it for them?

No. Just, no. Ridiculous thing to get annoyed about.

Here was the other big Star Wars event of the year for me. This video brought back some happy memories. So much so that it has even made me question even with a new Star Wars movie out, which was my favourite Star Wars experience this year? So strong was the Force with this one. Now the event is over this video reveals more of the secrets of this most secret of Secret Cinema experiences....

Definitely NOT spoiling as in giving anything away [personally I now hate the actual word, ever since Moffat overused it for River Song's catchphrase - oh how very smug and knowing of him], and I certainly think Talon's friend should (as Adam Hills would say) stop being a dick.
However, there might be a line of thought that stems from expectation. I mean the way one builds something up in one's mind is a struggle - let alone what someone else may say. How many times have you seen something and conveyed your entusiasm, or lack of, to someone, only for them to say it wasn't as bad / good as you had said.

One personal example is the 2 Hulk films - Reading various threads on the old SFX and the magazine itself, it was clear that people disliked Ang Lee's 2003 film 'Hulk', but liked Louis Leterrier's 2008 semi-sequel 'The Incredible Hulk'. In fact I remember that a lot of people loathed the first one.
I only got round to seeing them a couple of years ago and whilst, for example, neither are as good as 'Batman (89)', nor as bad as 'Batman & Robin' - I thought comparatively; the second one was a load of generic clichéd twaddle, and that at least Lee tried to do something slightly different, even though he failed massively and miserably.

This.

If it were a friend of mine, I'd be sorely tempted to actually spoil something about it so they get some perspective. I wouldn't do it, but I would be so very tempted.

I've a question rather than a rant, but I don't wanna start a thread for a SW specific question.

Are the documentaries on the Bluray box set worth shelling out for? The newly released single editions only come with a brace of commentaries each and that hardly seems worth the price (20€ per movie in town & it works out as near to that from the net by the time postage is added and the currency has been converted).

The amount of wild fan theories that seem to gaining credibility. You might as well say that Snoke is Anakin's force twin, born to another mother, created by Plageius and hidden away to protect him from the light side. He met a Sith who had decided to stop over on a planet, and saw him lose a three legged race and decided to adopt him. He met his gay partner and they adopted a force sensitive orphan who survived the Clone Wars who later was spanked for not tidying his room. He left a roller skate on the floor and Snoke tripped on it, hence the scars.

The child ran away because of this and set up a fostering agency, but had no children so set about kidnapping them and setting them up to be looked after in back worlds where they wouldn't be found. One of these children was Rey Rey Binks, who fortunately took her mother's looks.

Ah you've heard the theory that Snoke is Vader then.
That some people seem to be believing, despite seeing his body burnt and him turning up as a force ghost.

I have also heard that Rey is Anakin cloned. I kid you not.

I wonder what the craziest will be.

We know there has been a lot of stuff about Rey's lack of merchadise so someone decided to have a look at who is included in Toys in the Toys 'r' Us catalogue:
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/whe ... new-dudes/

The numbers are:
Code:
Kylo Ren   38
BB-8   15
Captain Phasma   14
Finn   12
Poe   11
Rey   10
Han   1
General Hux   1
Leia   0

And that doesn't even include Constable Zuzio who gets his own action figure in spit of being cut from the film:
http://www.slashfilm.com/who-is-constable-zuvio/

Some weird choices there...

Anyone planning to go to Celebration Europe III in London this year in July? There are additional tickets being made available tonight at 8pm GMT if you missed out on the tickets that originally went out on sale.

Not sure how much the box set retails at currently but I got it from CEX for £35.
If that seems reasonable to you, maybe try there?

There's nothing like CEX here in Finland, which is a bit of a blessing as well as a curse. I'd doubtless spend more than I do now and end up with DVDs & Blus that I don't really want just because they're cheap.

As Blurays are generally region free would it be worth it to import them?

....And in other Star Wars news, there has been a lot of talk about the Disney Park plans for a Star Wars Land experience, the story linked to below features the concept art featuring what they have planned. I certainly hope they rapidly roll this out across all Disney parks (these plans are for the Disney Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World), but the thought of a life size Millennium Falcon you can explore together with various other ships and locations is just too immensely cool for words. Check it out:

I guess this is a good fit for this thread, with it's catch all miscellaneous things Star Wars vibe, and this is definitely something worth raving about, and if you want a rant in keeping with the overall theme, we can have a rant about how criminally underused Darth Maul was.

:cussing:

Either way, check out this new fan film, probably one of the best I've seen, really well done. There have been some quality fan films coming out lately and this is right up there with the best of them.

Not too sure if this is the right thread for this, but didn't particularly want to create a thread for this. Do I look like a couple of greek letters.

It also gives an interesting insight into the first film (IV), and does show how so much was lost later on the Prequels by Lucas's authority at that point.

Some very interesting stuff that I didn't know about.

Gonna bookmark that for later, but I am aware of the general gist. It's also apparently the reason that Jaws did so well (and why Verna Fields got her well-deserved Oscar for editing). Saying that though, I would like to see a parallel universe version where George was given unlimited time and money to create his "true" vision of A New Hope -- I suppose the closest thing we'll ever see is that "The Star Wars" 8-part comic that came out a few years ago (which was actually pretty good -- if a little dry).

Hmmmm, looks interesting will definitely check that out.

All ranted out a week after seeing TLJ, but I'm sure I'll have some new rant in me soon. In the meantime here is some nice Star Wars themed comedy to lighten the mood. First one NSFW with the sound on.

Wow, just wow!

:cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Spoiler:
And this is interesting if true, that J.J. will throw everything that was TLJ and throw it in the trash and tell his own story for 9, like Johnson did with everything he set up at the end of Ep.7. It would make him a hero to some fans for sure, myself included, but doesn't that mean he'll piss off half the fanbase who did like TLJ? Either way it sounds like they'll be doing something quite on it's own just with the same characters in, which while it might mean a good stand alone movie is made, it makes for a pretty disjointed trilogy, and not the final trilogy that the Skywalker story deserved, or the fans for that matter. It just goes to show what a flawed idea it was to set sail on a new trilogy with no road map as to how this thing would go before they even started on the first one. It is a no brainer, and therefore hardly surprising that it has all collapsed into a mess. It was at best foolhardy or perhaps gutsy to go this route, but at worst it could be disastrous, and that seems to be where we're headed. What a shame, and a squandered chance to take the heroes of the original trilogy and have them hand over the baton to the next generation. Instead now it is going to be a mess. J.J. Abrams maybe able to salvage something and make a great movie to end it on, but no matter how good it might be, it won't change the fact that the trilogy will be a disjointed mess. All thanks to this horrendous middle chapter which seems to have intentionally torpedoed the franchise.

Cheers Rian

Interesting. Appallingly interesting. I mean, I'm definitely in the camp that doesn't like TLJ, and not just because of not-Luke (the more I think about that film the more annoyed I get. Might have to do a rant of my own...). And pulling out an old clip of Rian Johnson from years ago may be stretching credibility a bit, but then again this is exactly what has happened with the film and it seems a bit too close to be a coincidence.

Seems like there needed to be a roadmap for all three films in place from the start, and there wasn't, so what we're getting across what was supposed to be a final closing trilogy for the film series many of us have been enjoying for 40 years (I'm just about old enough to remember going to see the first film when it was released) is an incoherent mess, apparently. Great.

Going to spoiler my biggest problem with TLJ below.

Spoiler:
OK, I have problems with many things in this film, but they're the same problems most people who don't like the film have, so all that aside, my biggest problem is that the entire premise doesn't make sense after they realise it's only the lead ship that can track the fleet through hyperspace. Why, after this, do all the ships continue together in a straight line? In space. If they all went off in different directions only one ship would be in danger. Everyone else gets away. And they could probably make a good guess as to which one would be followed and man it with a skeleton crew.

But no, like a remake of Convoy set in space, apparently they only had one direction they could go in. Utterly, utterly lazy, unimaginative writing.
