Are you a Pizza Person?
A Curry Connoisseur?
A Thai-Taster?
A fan of Chinese?
Any others?

I find I go through phases of favouring certain styles of food - much as I love a good curry or Chinese, there are times when only pizza will do.

So at the moment I would head down the pizza choice - no onion, lots of cheese, preferably some chicken with decent garlic bread (local one here does a garlic and cheese calzone - heavenly)

The past three years, for my birthday, we've gone into Cambridge (a good half hour drive including navigating the city) to get a donor kebab for dinner. I am unashamed.

Last week a kebab/burger shop opened in the village. We're going there tomorrow. Pity my poor arteries!

I hardly ever eat take out these days - we live in the sticks so there's not a huge amount of choice. I can make better curries than the couple of take outs we have (v generic meat and choice of oily sauces), Mr M's not a fan of Chinese or Thai food and since the utterly brilliant Pizza and a Movie closed down (free DVD rental with every large pizza, terrific pizzas too) we're left with Dominos. I'm not a fan. They're over-priced and under-cheesed.

But when I lived in Leeds (sigh...) I had a bunch of favourite places. There was a Chinese/Malaysian place that did a sublime Nasi Goreng and the best salt and pepper squid I've ever eaten. Even delivered it was always crisp and light, with soft squid and the perfect balance of salty, spicy and sweet spice blend. There was a Moroccan place that did delicious salads and a goats cheese and merguez filo parcel that still makes me salivate. Just down the road there was a brilliant Caribbean place. I don't know a huge amount about Caribbean food, so every time I ordered I'd pick something at random, and it was always delicious and comforting. There were a whole bunch of really good curry houses, my mates and I would choose based on which one we were nearest at the time. And there was Lucky's Pizza. For a while I wasn't sure if Mr M came to Leeds to see me or order from Lucky's... One time we ordered their largest pizza for a laugh - the pizza dude could barely get it through the door. Great bases and well balanced and imaginative toppings.

I love cooking (most of the time) but sometimes I do wish I could just order brilliant takeaway.

Annoyingly our favourite takeaway recently shut down. It was an indian just round the corner from us called Rajkot which did what they described as Indian Tapas, although honestly you could just get a large portion if any ine item on the menu and it would be a amazing. My favourite take-out would be there wraps which would be any curry (i preferred tikka paneer) wrapped in a freshly tandoored Pashwari Naan Bread. Not one person I got food for failed to tell me it was the best indian they'd ever eaten (even an Indian cook and someone who trials different Indian restaurants every week).

Rarlely get take-out though, my wife enjoys cooking so much if we have a good meal anywhere she'll then try to work out the recipe and make it herself.

I have never got into kebabs. Even late night (usually after gigs) there is just nothing appealing about the for me.
I can happily agree to burgers, curries, Chinese, but the simple kebab is something that does nothing for me.

I love a takeaway. Don't have them often due to cost though. Part of the fun is having the food delivered and knowing that it means a lazy evening.

We have a fairly decent chinese where I live, although there is a better one near my In laws (Up in Ladybank) which does an excellent spicy "Turbo" rice.

I quite like a dominoes (Although they are under-cheesed as JJ says) I mean, they put a saussage in the crust. In the crust damnit. However sometimes I get a real hankering for a pizza from the kebab shop, don't know why but sometimes I get a hankering for the sort of pizza only a place that mainly caters to people just out of the pub can provide. Same shop does a nice chicken Pakora too. Not that into Kebabs, think I went through a month at 19 where they were my post pub food and then it just as quickly stopped.

There was an italian resteraunt near where I used to live which did the whole menu as takeaway. Did a really nice Pizza too.

Don't get takeaway curry much, not out of preference but because I am the only one in the house who likes it and in general I don't order for just one.

I love me some takeaway - unfortunately I really need to back off them as my waistline is not thinking me at all :cussing:

A local Chinese takeaway called Silver Bird. I'm trying to work my way through the menu but my favourite is beef and broccoli in Oyster Sauce with egg fried rice.

Always nice to "meet" other people who do this.
A good friend of mine was caught out at his local Chinese when he took his parents there - He played the part of someone who had only been there a couple of times and they were discussing what they were going to have when the waiter suggested a couple of items. His parents asked why those were being suggested and they got the reply "they are the only things he hasn't tried already."

(he also once had a daily curry every day for a month!)

Jeez, that must have hurt!

My preferences can vary. Back in my student days it always had to be a doner kebab with chips and ketcup, mayo or chilli sauce (or usually more than one!!) on top after a night out.

But since I moved house late last year the only takeaway I've really gone for is the chippy since I have two of them nearby now, despite there being loads of other takeaways close by as well.

But prior to that in more recent years I've been partial to a either pizza with cheese sauce and onion rings, although I can't remember the last time I had it, or a chinese and only had one of them earlier this month for the first time in a year.

It is a matter of personal pride that, at the age of 42 1/2, I have NEVER had a kebab. Never.

As for takeaways, I live in London, it's hard to throw a brick without hitting at least 3 fried chicken shops but shall I tell you what's getting progressively more and more difficult to find? GOOD fish and chip shops, they're all turning into the aforementioned fried chicken places and, frankly, that makes me sad.

*edit*

I've just remembered my favourite takeaway place. It was near Old Street tube and whenever I'd been working late or, more likely, drinking in the pubs near work I'd go to FCKF (fried chicken, kebab and fish) and have chicken and chips. It was a place of wondrous food that filled the "oh my god, I'm twatted, I need to eat something" need that usually hit me late at night. Sadly, it's now gone. Also, these days, I'd be told off if I rolled in to the flat gone midnight, smelling of chips and cider.

in Chicago my favorite place is in the South side, near Southside so not dangerously S Side, called Pleasanthouse Bakery who've introduced Pot Pies to Chicago and so you can now get decent Steak and Ale or Cornish Pasties. With America's recent discovery of Hard Cider the place is becoming livable

Unfortunately for us North Siders it's about 20 miles away and that can take an hour on a Saturday

Nearer to home Peaquods Pizza make one of the best Pizzas in the US

When back in Maastricht, just over the Maas, so in Belgium is a cafe that makes the best Stroopwafels I've ever tasted, the thought of them are making my teeth ache

We have a good pizza & kebab place barely five minutes walk from our place, which is good as I love both. Their kebabs aren't quite the same as back home - the meat is the same, but the salad is lacking raw onion and the garlic sauce is missing, with ketchup in its place - but it'll do.

What I miss is fish and chip shops. Some days I would give a limb for a jumbo battered sausage, chips, mushy peas and a pickled egg.

Kebabs are one thing I miss, we have plenty of Levant food places but instead of Kebabs we have something called Gyros where the meat is served on a round piece of unleavened bread. Quite like Schwamas though

People say you can't get a decent curry in the US, but if you just head to where Indians (in Chi it's Devon Avenue) have congregated then you you'll get a pretty decent curry. The problem with Indian Restaurants in the 'burbs is they've toned down their spices to match the American palate. But if you have a word with the waiter they'll provided you with the same kind of meal they serve to their Indian customers

Fish and Chips aren't usually a problem if you go to an Irish bar of a Friday, though many will try to serve fries rather than chips so you have to say "Steak Fries"

Find the same thing here - although there are MANY more Indian restaurants. Finding a good one that will do things that aren't "standard" dishes is a rare thing of beauty.
